Working in a company and learning at school are not completely different like most of the people thinks. If you look closely, you can still points out some of the very obvious similarities.
Even though working and studying occur in different places and perhaps in different times, they still have a lot in common. For instance, whether if it’s school or work, you still get orders from a higher rank. In this case, a teacher or a boss both has the power to control lower rank like a student or employee. Another example is that you have to be at school/work on time and follow the instructions. It is necessary to agree and follow the rules so we can ensure that the task or assignments are done with the best effort. Both learning and working can be very beneficial, the student/employee learns new things and take experiences from mistakes. It doesn’t matter that a person goes to school before getting a job; they still have many similar characteristics.
On the other hand, there are obviously a lot of differences between these two concepts. The first unfair difference is money issue. Employees get paid for doing their job at work, while students have to pay for accomplishing educational tasks at school. People can wear whatever they want at work as long as it is appropriate, but students need to wear a specific type of uniform in order to blend in with the others in class. Another unfair point, only graduated students with diploma can find a proper job. Since students are under 18, they cannot get a diploma. However, there is a big difference when students go to school. Students do not pay for nothing, they pay to learn, do test and finally, relax by having a great 3 months between June and August summer vacation.

In conclusion, they are same but different. Working and studying almost have the same overall job, which is work and earn knowledge. However, they serve different purpose. One to earn money, the other earn educational things.

Post #10: Jacob and the Beast

Jacob and the Beast

House Rules and Beauty and the Beast are two different types of book. One is complicated and one is childish. They are for different audiences but there are some similar things that can be found while reading.
Jacob has Asperger, which made him different. His mother is Emma, who loves and sacrifices everything for him. Because of Jacob, Emma lost her friends and her husband, but she still loves Jacob because he is her son. Emma protects him to keep him from being locked up in jail.
A beast, who can talk, would not make a lot of friends. Everyone abandoned him and no one likes him. When he first met Belle, she hated him because he captured her. But as time passes and Belle get to know the beast more, she started to realize that he is a nice person and treated him nicely.
The similarities in both of them are Jacob and the beast are different from normal people but they both get treated nicely from one person who is special to them. But the differences is Emma always love and protect Jacob, but Belle only like the beast when she get closer to him, in the beginning she does not like him.

In conclusion, they are much different but can have similarities. Being different doesn’t mean you will not receive love in your life. But it depends on the time and how you make people likes you.

Post #9: Introduction and conclusion of an Essay ~ TV - Could you be without it?

TV: Could you be without it? Discuss.

à INTRODUCTION
TV, as known as television, has become one of the most needed things in people’s life. Almost everyone knows about it, used, using and will use it. This includes 2 years old kids that watch cartoons up until 109 years old women that watch elder’s show. Imagine if it suddenly disappears and everything goes back to Stone Age, no televisions. Would human be able to survive?

à CONCLUSION

In conclusion, humans could survive without televisions. It’s just that they are used to the existence of it and feel uncomfortable without it. I think I could survive without televisions and so will most of the people on earth.

Post #8: Comparing and Contrasting LYING versus ACTING

Most of the people in the world think that acting and lying is the same thing. But I think the opposite, they are different. Yes I do agree that they are both not telling the truth and those general things, but beside that, there are differences if you look closely inside. First, the most obvious difference; Lying is a word description and acting is an action. You can lie by your mouth but you can’t act by your mouth. You can act with the help of your mouth, but then the mouth role will be count as a type of lying. The same problem with acting, you can’t lie by your actions because lying is a part of your words. Secondly, acting isn’t the same as lying because when you’re acting, you are not being yourself. You are copying, pretending or trying to be someone else. This does not cause much effect on other people sometimes since the actions are not exactly meant to be directly for someone. For lying, it’s a different because when you’re lying, you have to be talking to someone. That means the words are actually being specifically delicate to that person. This cause more effects because it could be listed as betraying. Once the truth is found, the liar will face a big consequence. In conclusion, I think that you should not either lie or act, because they are both bad.

Post #7: Should Teenagers Get PAID for Doing Their Homework?

If you are a student, you’ve probably heard of “Homework”. You can see it in many different perspectives. To some students, doing homework is like a precious and honorable job to do every day. They love doing it so much that they can’t live without it. On the other hand, some of the students just hate it.  They consider homework as a job that they are forced to do every night after school. But all of them all thought of “Homework” as a job. So here’s the question, if “Homework” is a job, should the worker, the students, get paid salary? We should look at this in two ways. The first way is yes, the students should get paid for doing their homework. First, it’s all about the energy. Studying is difficult and takes a lot of work to do, especially for teenagers at the age of reaching high schools. Their heads and brains have to think hard all the time. Can you imagine studying 8 hours at school day time, and then go home and do homework for 2 more hours? It’s just too much. Their work should be paid. Second, doing homework needs a lot of time. When schools end, everyone go home, expecting to have free time to relax and play games, but for teenagers, they have to sit and do homework. It is just like in school, no different. Why don’t teachers give their students time to finish their work in school? Just like jobs, if the staff works extra hours, they should get paid more. Looking at all these things we’ve talk about just now, homework seems really bad for you. But it is actually not. Let’s look at the positive things of homework. Before we mentioned about energy and effort it takes to do homework and it should get paid. But if you think again, the effort you put in to do your homework doesn’t go to the trash bin; it goes to your brain and knowledge. Studying is for your own good and doing homework is for improving your studying. Therefore, you don’t need to be paid to do your homework. If you want to get smarter, homework is one of the ways to help you. In conclusion, homework is not completely that bad as some of the teenagers thought. But do you think it would be cool if we actually get paid to do our homework?

Post #4: How to be COOL ~ With pictures - By Phuong

How to be COOL...

Instructions and tips with pictures by Phuong

Hello! Welcome to the "Most useless How-to" television show. Our topic this week, chosen by people, is How to be Cool. Do you ever get bullied by others? Do you have a crush on some hot girls or guys in the school but you're just to normal for them? Do you ever stared at popular students in the school with big eyes and your mouth wide open, wishing you are them? Well, worry no more. Today, I am going to demonstrate to you HOW TO BE COOL.

Step 1: Update the trends!
So, think about the word "COOL". It's one of the famous thing these days for teenagers. That means you have to catch up with the present. Don't think about the past, don't predict the future. Live where you are! 22nd century. Follow the new trends. People nowadays don't talk long and hard-to-understand language anymore. You have to learn words like Lol, BRB, Cool story bro, dude,... and most important, do not forget WASSUPPPPPPP. If someone says to you "How's it goin' man" and you reply "I'm fine, thank you", you're done. Sometimes, think outside of the box. If you are the cool one, then you make trends for others to follow. Stacking 1-floor-house on top of each other might be a great idea.

Step 2: Internet 24/24
It's 2013. People use internet a lot more than they used to. They find information, write essays, submit homework,... on the internet, and so are cool people. You want to be cool? Get to know the computer. Don't write letters by hand and ask a bird to deliver it. Use the new mailing system, Yahoo! Or Gmail. Cool people don't sit and have their eyes on the book, they have their feet on the table with the laptop on their knees. Join Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,... the popular social network. Talk with people. Put cool status and share awesome photos, this is when you use your technics from step 1. Comment, chat or anything, use the teen language.

Step 3: Have unique and awesome styles for you
Cool people don't want to look like everyone else. That's boring. Make something of your own. Call it MY STYLE. For example, you could start wearing long colorful socks with sandals, or where a turtle on your head, or wearing a 3cm thick jacket in a summer day. But be careful with your fashion, check if they match from head to toe. If your hats, top, bottom, shoes fits but your glasses is dead, you're finish! Cool people have fashion eyes. You know how cool guys wear caps and jacket with only 1 arm in the sleeve? You could take something like that and turn it into your style.

Step 4: Walk like a PRO
Do you ever see a cool guy walks with their back curve to the front and the head looking straight with small eyes? No. Cool guys walk like a pro. They do the opposite thing. If you want to look cool, you have to lean your back like there is a stick behind you that would hold you when you fall. Your head always move, to the left, to the right. You could even shake your shoulder as your feet move. And to add more excited stuff, dance and jump. Be active, be creative, do what you feel. Then, people with look at you like a cool guy.

Extra step: BE HOT
This step is very simple yet very effective. All you need is a stove. Get into a blanket and turn on the flames. Sit still for 1-2 hours and you will be very hot.

TIPS
If you want to be a cool guy/girl, don't follow the steps above.

That is it for today Useless How-to. Thank you for reading and remember, be cool!...or not.

Post #3: Letter to the Future

Wednesday, 28 August, 2013

Dear you, (yes you)

My name is Phuong, and I'm 12 years old (to be 13). This is a letter which should be with the grade 8C at Canadian International School Vietnam's time capsule. This time capsule are things from 2013 (or somewhere near) that we did for our first literacy project. You are supposed to find this at 2023 which means 20 years later so if you are not at that year then close the letter this instant.

I don't know about you, but my day-to-day life is very easy and normal, just like every other kid at my age. I wake up at 6 in the morning, go for a 45 minutes exercise after brushing teeth. After that I changed to my uniform and "ride" my car to school. Grade 8 is hard to me, but I'm learning as much as I can so I can go to USA and learn next year. In the afternoon, I arrived home at 4 and after taking a shower, I do my homework. I eat dinner at 7 and I did some TOEFL lessons to improve my English. I also take vocal training, painting, piano and ballet class.

Famous musicians in these days are big pop star like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Adele,... and my favourite... the princess of Country music - Taylor Swift!! Another very popular music is K-pop. Korean Pop, you might know them through popular bands like SNSD as known as Girl's Generation, Super Junior, Big Bang, T-Ara, 2NE1,... Another hobby of mine is watching cartoons. A very very very very very VERY awesome movie that just came out is Despicable Me 2! Oh I just love those yellow minions. You like reading? I hope you have those books that flip pages by itself! I like Doraemon.

People nowadays spend most of their time on the computer (like me). We rely a LOT on internet. From education to information, finding jobs,... I think that you guys use it too, maybe more than us. Environmetal issues is still a huge problem. Biodiversity is decreasing, pollution is getting worse. The ozone is slowly damage. There are still some child labour in the world.

In 20 years, I hope you can solve the environmental problems and stop the child labour. Protect the animals! Live a peacefully and happily life together! And remember to invent flying cars!

Sincerely,
Quach Le Tam Phuong

Post #2: Time Capsule (Creative story)

The Time Capsule

*Story and ideas by Phuong. Warning: The details in the story are not real. This is a fiction.*

It was Saturday. I have just finished a full lunch. Lying on the couch with the magazine on my hand but not reading it, I think of what to do next. I stood up and look outside of the window.
The weather is so perfect, light wind with a little bit of sunlight. I decide that I would go for a walk in the garden.
The garden behind my house is connected to the bushes leaded to the neighbor's garden, so we shared a huge piece of land where I could kill my time. The garden are filled with plants and flowers. Roses, sunflowers, daisies, some vegetables and all sorts of trees. I sat down in front of a purple tulip, took out a paper on a hard piece of board with a pencil and start measuring and sketching the beautiful flower.
Suddenly I saw something shines from the ground very brightly. I crawl over and use my pencil to push the dirt out. A key.
I quickly went to the store room and find a shovel to dig up the ground. I found a not-small-not-big box. On the top, there is a small square the wrote "TIME CAPSULE - Open in 2012". That was last year.
I once again ran into the store room to find a hammer. I unlock the the lock and then open it. Guess what I found inside.
The first thing I saw when I open the box was 2 dresses, 1 red 1 blue. They were made of the type of cloth that is really thick and heavy. They were long to the ankles, and have black buttons on them. 1 long sleeves and 1 short sleeves, with no flower or decoration. I wonder who would where such thing. They would probably be sweaty on the sunny days.

The second thing is some black and short wigs. They were kind of curly and looks old.
The last thing I found was a black and white photo of some people wearing clothes that look like the other 2 dresses.
After doing some research, I found out that these stuff were near the 1950s. I think that this is a great idea to store things that are from my time so the people in the future can see how it was in the past. I am going to find a box to make a TIME CAPSULE and burry it deep under the ground so maybe in 2100 or some when other people might see what it was in 2013.

I have black hair and brown eyes, but the sun causes my hair to my kind of brown-ish. I'm short (only 158cm) and normal.

I am a girl (obviously). I was born 17 days away  from 2001 and I am currently 12 almost 13. I'm a CIS student and today is the first day of grade 8 with Mr. Vaughan (pronounced Von) ! This is my 3rd year at CIS, and all of my class is C (6C, 7C, 8C). What a fun thing. So, let get to know my family!

I have a 40 years old mom and a 41 years old dad. I also have a little sister who is studying at grade 3C in CIS. In my dad family, I have 4 cousins, 3 of them are older than me and 1 of them is only 2 years old. In my mom family, there are so many cousins than I can;t even remember.

I like to eat, watch television, read books, sleep, sing and listen to music. My favourite food is... umm... I don't really know, there's so many to choose! I like sushi, noodle, pizza,... I also like ice cream, cookies, and white chocolateeeee! My favourite movies and shows are cartoons! I know it's hard to believe but even though I'm 12 already, I still prefer cartoons than actions and romance... I also watch horrors, like Mama... I like to watch some K-dramas and K-game show. I also like The Voice Kid. Favourite book? Probably Doraemon :)) And other comics. I don't like long books that takes like FOREVER to finish because I will fell asleep as soon as I reach page number 3. Okay, we are getting to the important part, MUSIC!!! Music is my life! I can't live without it! And what is my favourite music type? OF COURSE!! IT'S KPOP!!! Yes, Korean Pop. My favourite band is T-Ara, the one with 6 girls. I  like them for their couragous. They have been through so many scandals and have so many anti-fans and some even tell them to disband. But they still stand and fight. My favourite solo idols are Ailee and Taylor Swift.
